Badminton World Championship 2009 news

England have withdrawn from the World Badminton Championships 2009 starting tomorrow in Hyderabad, India due to "a terrorist threat against the championships.

The eight strong team, which also includes Olympic silver medalists Nathan Robertson, withdrew from the tournament, after reports of a threat to the Islamic group Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The Chief Executive of Badminton England, Adrian Christy said: "This was an extremely difficult decision, and we do not. After the Olympics, the most prestigious world championship, but we 'were not prepared to risk the safety of our players, coaches and staff that we thought could have been a very unstable environment. "

"We have listened to the advice of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the British High Commission. We are in constant dialogue with them in recent days. The conclusion is that safety is of paramount importance and therefore with great regret that the team return home immediately. "
