About GTU

The Graduate Theological Union, an ecumenical and inter-religious cross, build Bridges between Christian denominations and other faith traditions and for the education of students for teaching, research, ministry, and services. We are working to achieve our mission in two ways: as a Graduate School offers academic programs in a wide range of fields in theology and religious studies, and as the largest organization of seminars and graduate schools in the United States. The GTU is flourishing as a haven for inter-religious thought, education and training, so that an appreciable difference for the highest good - and as the place where religion meets the world.

Located in Berkeley, California, where the diversity of cultures and faith traditions reflects our own learning in GTU is intellectually poor and rich in resources. Our Union is a pioneering educational environment: a graduate school that is an agreement of nine theological seminar at eight centers and affiliates. We are blessed with one of the best theological libraries in the world, an unusually large faculty of distinguished scientists, and a close cooperative relationship with our neighboring institution, the University of California, Berkeley. The proximity of our member schools, multi-religious centers and interdisciplinary programs, creating a vibrant intellectual community, attracts scientists from around the world.

As a union we have the largest theological faculty in the United States, including the renowned experts in Christian spirituality and homiletics as well as critical and creative scientists in 14 different fields - from the Bible for learning ethics and social theory. Religious traditions represented here including Protestants, Catholics, Unitarians Universalist, Greek Orthodox, Jewish, Buddhist, and all of us working together for a common task, and while the specifics of our particular community of faith. Our curriculum has changed in traditional strength in the Bible, history, theology and ethics, the arts, culture and history of education, spirituality, and interdisciplinary studies. Our graduates also strong and passionate thinkers do. Degrees and Programs

Our curriculum has changed in traditional strength in the Bible, history, theology and ethics to a wide range of areas, including arts and religion, religion and ideology, culture and history of study of religion, Christian spirituality, and interdisciplinary studies.
Doctoral studies at GTU
The GTU offers dissertation and Th.D. Degree. Both have advanced degrees that prepare students for professional careers in teaching, writing and wisdom, and leadership opportunities for religious organizations, agencies of social services, community, museums, libraries, publishers, and the educational institution.
Master of Arts Program
The MA degree is a joint collaboration of the nine member schools of the GTU. The MA student partners in a member school, or a participating academic center or institute, chose to study the interests and / or denominational commitment. Students have access to courses throughout the settlement, and many courses UC Berkeley. The purpose of the program is to provide a basic understanding of theological or religious studies for further graduate study or for general academic purposes.
The MA is available in several areas of study in the context of theology and religion, including the offerings in Biblical Languages, Buddhist Studies, Jewish Studies, and Orthodox Christian Studies.
Other options for learning
• Special Student Status - Students unsure of the study, their interests are best, or who may have an application deadline and want to start courses can apply for work in One of the school or a member of GTU for special status students. Someone with M. div. or an MA in theology, the goal of doctors required for the program may also apply to the GTU as a special student.
• Certificate Program - Individual members of the school also offers certificate programs for students who want to explore theological education for a year before to a degree.
• Take a class in GTU - If you have a bachelor's degree allows you to create a path by a member of the school. Check the dates of the courses. Contact members of the teachers at the school offer courses on application.
• Summer Courses - Many GTU member schools offer courses (both credit and non-credit) in the month of summer. Please contact the individual members of the school for more information.

We are blessed with one of the best theological libraries in the world, the scientist, the unique core of teachers and the selection of courses, and a close cooperative relationship with our neighboring institution, the University of California, Berkeley.
