Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has received reports, including reports in the print media regarding the increase in steel prices in the months juni'08, especially during the last week. In this context, SAIL would like to reiterate that, in accordance with the commitment of the company, the price line, SAIL has its price for the domestic market during the month juni'08 at the same level as that of mei'08. SAIL is to maintain the same price for the domestic market in the months and juli'08.

SAIL urge manufacturing, other consumers and the channels to ensure that the price advantage passed on to final consumers.

It should be added that in May SAIL is continuously strive to increase the steel on the domestic market. In the months juni'08, an increase of supply on the domestic market with around 32%, with sales touching 1.08 million tonnes, compared to the same month last year. The increase in sales in juni'08 over juni'07 in important categories like TMT bars and HR coil is around 74% and 20%, respectively.

During the quarter April-SAIL juni'08 was almost 9% more steel in the domestic market over the same period last year. The rise in April-juni'08 compared to April-juni'07 in categories like TMT bars, HR and simple galvanized coil / corrugated sheet is about 55%, 16% and 30%, respectively.
