ST. XAVIER DE KOLKATA - Majhi SEEMAR Ashim TUMI

One hundred and fifty years of service to the nation, especially of Bengal. The St. Xavier's school and university should be proud of their contribution to the cause of education and culture of India. These two institutions have many educators and students who have earned praise for their Alma Mater.

A word on the former St. Xavier's with the establishment in June, 1835 - The Jesuits in England, under the leadership of the Father. Francis began Chadwick SJ St. Xavier's College Murgyhatta in the house of a Fathullah Apcar. In his short career of twelve years, the College has changed three addresses growing number of students attracted by the high standards set. In January 1836 the College moved to 3, Park Street for a rent of Rs 250 for Monday and again in January 1841, was moved to 22 Chowringee, now the Indian Museum.

Due to a limited number of relationships between Mgr. Patrick Carew, the new Vicar Apostolic of Bengal and the Jesuits, the Jesuits returned to English in October 1846, and St. Xavier's had no staff. We recall the Jesuits planted the seed of education in the bottom of Kolkata.

The Belgian Jesuit came in November 1859, led by Br. H. Depelchin (Rector: 1860 - 1871), the founding father of St. Xavier's. They went from St. Xavier's 22, Chowringhee Theater Without Strain on 16 January 1860, the show home teachers learned and diligent students.

He was the father. O'Neill (Rector: 1904 - 1913) that the College Crest and motto: Nihil Ultra, a currency, an important point and a noble ideal of the unconquerable hope Xaverian always aim high. "Nothing is perfect, as long as everything remains to be done."

As a Jesuit college, St. Xavier's made his own contribution to the transformation of the current social situation, so that the principles of social justice, equal opportunity, genuine freedom and respect for religious and moral values, listed in the Constitution of India, to win in May, and the ability to live fully human existence in May will be open to all.

St. Xavier's has all these 150 years and remained constantly persevered in the midst of problems and misery. Now with all the richness of the past, it faces the future with the same spirit - "Nihil Ultra '(Nothing beyond). I hope and pray that the 150th year of Xavier, a period of renewal, of introspection and meaningful celebration.

Minutes, hours, days, months, years, centuries, millennia ... so that man will encapsulate different time. Encapsulated or not, for an indefinite period as a continuum has no meaning or force without a reference in terms of people or human activities.

For Xaverians, 1860 is a reference in the continuum of time. This year marks the beginning of an inspiration - Nil Ultra - time and space dimensions, and it was called "St. Xavier's College", "maximum Collegium Sancti Francisci Xaverii. The year 2009 marks the Sesqui-centenary and the hundredth post golden jubilee of the enfleshment of this inspiration. Even if the post-hundredth anniversary, it is fitting that we recall the memory of the great characters that portals of this institution, bearing the imprint of excellence, which Nihil Ultra icons.

As the high priest of the temple of learning, I will enter the inner sanctum of incense to offer our humble tribute to the great icons adorn the Pantheon. There is the vision of manufacturers, Depelchin Father and son team of 1860, the Fathers Lafont, Schepers, Joris, Vestraeten, Bonhomie and Joe D'Souza at the present time, Raman Anda Chatterjee, father of India Today journalism Sarkar brothers Norman Pritchard, the first Indian Olympic medalist (silver) to our own Sourav Ganguly, a world icon in the field cricket, Utpal Dutt and Anil Chatterjee, the matinee idols of the past to Prosenjit Chatterjee , the screen hero of modern times, Sir JC Bose Ananda Mohan Chakravorty, 1974 best American science fellow; Suhrawardy, Gani Khan Choudhury Jyoti Basu to the politician par excellence, and Shri Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India ; RN Mukerjee, the first industrial and Aditya Birla to Vijay Mallya, LN Mittal, BM Khaitan, Sanjiv Goenka, Sanjay Buddhia of our time .... Xaverian the list of icons in different areas is endless. Yes, St. Xavier's as an institution of quality education has suffered many storms in March through its history, never hesitate its goal the production of men and women in the true spirit of Nihil Ultra.

Ultimately what St. Xavier's? Not just a building of mortar and cement, but a living heritage, continually augmented and perpetuated and really by the staff and students, through the ordinary man, always looking for some outside the ordinary ... a paradigm of human values that refer to a reality outside ... an ideal to live, not counting the cost .... A glimmer of hope in a seemingly hopeless and chaos of the world .... a challenge to live differently, in response to the ever-changing reality, which aims to increase high ... Standing on the threshold of 150 years, St. Xavier's, staff and students have new goals to the autonomy of the institution under the University of Calcutta to New Heights ... A center of higher education and the quality of research to help develop the knowledge society. Nil Ultra ... Seemar Asheem Majhi Tumi. St. Xavier's.

While paying tribute to our temple of learning, I will not in my right, if I forgot my gratitude and thanks of the whole school, Professor Panchali Sen and his team to take the problem as soon as possible "Xaverian 2008-2009. And what volume of quality that reflects the various aspects of ultra Nile by interviews with real icons Xaverians in whom the spirit of Nihil Ultra shine!

· B.Sc. Major : Mass Communication and Videography (MCV). (for both boys & girls)

· B.Com. - (Honours course). (Morning for Boys only. Evening - for both boys & girls)

· B.B.A. – (Honours course). (for both boys & girls)

· M.Sc. - Biotechnology (5 year integrated after +2). (for both boys & girls)
