About the College


Scottish Church College, founded in July 1830 by the Reverend Dr. Alexander Duff, the first missionary of the Church overseas in Scotland, is a leading higher education institutions in India. The college is currently owned and managed by the Church of North India (CNI) and enjoys the status of a religious minority institution under Article 30 of the Constitution of India.
The main objective of the institution is to provide education and to ensure full development of its students to enable them to meet the challenges of the new millennium. In addition to academic excellence, the College seeks to inspire and develop in students a sense of social, moral and ethical values so that they become active members of their society.
The College is the second oldest in the north of Calcutta and a lot of great people, the chief of them is Swami Vivekananda and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
The College was awarded a grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). The College also has the status of college with potential for excellence, a quality assessment by the University Grants Commission. Media research, as prices in the Scottish top fifty schools in India.
We offer courses of honor in 15 subjects in the sub-flow and post-graduate courses in two subjects. The Department of Teacher Training College is preparing students for the Bachelor of Education.

College History
Dr. Alexander Duff of the Church of Scotland missionary and his colleagues, with the help of Raja Rammohan Roy, the famous social reformer, founded in 1830 the General Assembly of the establishment, and in 1844 the Free Church institution, which later became the name Duff College. They united in 1908 in the Scottish Churches College, which was renamed in 1929 with the union of the Churches of Scotland, the Scottish Church College.
Administrative control of the college was carried out by a mission of the Church of Scotland in 1953 and was located in a local board composed of representatives of the Church of Scotland and the United Church of North India which joined the Church of North India where it was founded in 1970 is the successor de facto and de jure. The College is a Christian religious minority in the institution within the meaning of Article 30 of the Constitution of India.

The history of the Open and Distance Learning Systems

In an educational context, the Open Learning Systems refers to the philosophy that the student has the freedom to choose how to learn, that learning, where learning and teaching. Open learning is described as a learning process, which is not closed or obstructed by barriers, accessible and available is limited and not hidden, and this means continuum of access and opportunity (Wedemayer) . The characteristics of a system completely open to a learning process in which the student is able to fulfill its own objective, choose the content, order of the program and decide when and how learning should be evaluated (Rowntree). Over the years, the Open Learning Systems (OLS) was established, according to country needs. While schools were open in many developing countries of Asia and Africa as a realistic response to the problems of education critical numbers, resources, quality, in countries like New Zealand, these institutions to the needs of the students dispersed. Still others focus on diplomas to those who have gone through school, but fails to qualify (Perraton).

The philosophy of the Open Learning is best performed by the mode of distance education. Models of ED have evolved over several generations on the basis of the educational needs of the population and the social and political agendas of governments. This includes exam preparation was designed only for those who can not afford the luxury of enrolling in a university or who live too far away to attend regular school. Distance learning in the first phase was characterized by the model of teaching by correspondence, followed by the model multi-media and tele-learning. The degree of flexibility and accessibility provided by existing facilities. The scope of technology, particularly the use of the Internet, distance learning system has the potential for students with a more interactive and personalized educational support than ever.
