Rail service from the Commission, Gorakhpur was established on July 14, 1984. Initially with RRB RRB-Muzaffarpur requirement has been the restoration of the railways in the Northeast.
In January, 1985 Railway Service Commissions were renamed as Railway Recruitment Applications Board (RRB's).
During the year 1998 all RRBs came under the control of the Railway Recruitment Control Board Office (RRCB), which was established by the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), New Delhi to coordinate and streamline the functioning of RRBs.
With the reorganization of the railway in 2002, RRB-Muzaffarpur is part of the East Central Railway and RRB-Gorakhpur as catering to the requirement of railways in the Northeast.
