fluff
Fluff consists of soft threads or fibres in the form of small, light balls or lumps. For example, you can refer to the fur of a small animal as fluff.


clan
A clan is a group which consists of families that are related to each other.

You can refer to a group of people with the same interests as a clan.


persuade
If you persuade someone to do something, you cause them to do it by giving them good reasons for doing it.


If something persuades someone to take a particular course of action, it causes them to take that course of action because it is a good reason for doing so.

If you persuade someone that something is true, you say things that eventually make them believe that it is true.


pretend
If you pretend that something is the case, you act in a way that is intended to make people believe that it is the case, although in fact it is not.

If children or adults pretend that they are doing something, they imagine that they are doing it, for example as part of a game.

If you do not pretend that something is the case, you do not claim that it is the case.



fractal
In geometry, a fractal is a shape made up of parts that are the same shape as itself and are of smaller and smaller sizes.


pretence
A pretence is an action or way of behaving that is intended to make people believe something that is not true.

If you do something under false pretences, you do it when people do not know the truth about you and your intentions.

crick
If you have a crick in your neck or in your back, you have a pain there caused by muscles becoming stiff.


hilarious
If something is hilarious, it is extremely funny and makes you laugh a lot.

Someone who is deluded believes something that is not true.

People sometimes use lamb when they are addressing or referring to someone who they are fond of and who is young, gentle, or unfortunate.

To purge an organization of its unacceptable members means to remove them from it. You can also talk about purging people from an organization.

Purge is also a noun.

If you purge something of undesirable things, you get rid of them.

Protocol is a system of rules about the correct way to act in formal situations.

A protocol is a set of rules for exchanging information between computers.

A protocol is a written record of a treaty or agreement that has been made by two or more countries.

A protocol is a plan for a course of medical treatment, or a plan for a scientific experiment.


dramatic
A dramatic change or event happens suddenly and is very noticeable and surprising.
= striking

A dramatic action, event, or situation is exciting and impressive.


You use dramatic to describe things connected with or relating to the theatre, drama, or plays.


mock
If someone mocks you, they show or pretend that they think you are foolish or inferior, for example by saying something funny about you, or by imitating your behaviour.

You use mock to describe something which is not real or genuine, but which is intended to be very similar to the real thing.

Mocks are practice exams that you take as part of your preparation for real exams.
